Relive the history & the tradition of the man-made 'BISSE' that for centuries irrigated the land where our winemakers developed their art, making the wine of our glaciers & our mountains
« BISSE » is a special word in the Valais for typical irrigation canals.
The Central Valais is surrounded by chains of mountains. The land is dry and the weather warm.
Therefore, the water from rivers and mountain streams had to be collected to bring water for
irrigation.
The main bisses still exist and the paths which run along them slope gently and give a breathtaking view over valleys, villages and mountains.
